Phi Delta Chi offers pharmacy students many very
important benefits and opportunities:
-
Joining Phi Delta Chi allows students to interact with
students from different graduating classes. This unique
opportunity can be very helpful while studying, buying books, finding jobs,
and signing up for internships.
-
As a Brother, the student has
the opportunity to belong to a fraternity dedicated to the advancement
of the science of pharmacy.
-
The Theta chapter contributes to both the community
and college by participating in the many professional projects
annually.
-
The fraternity provides a variety of leadership
positions as a committee head or as an officer.
-
Phi Delta Chi stresses the importance of scholastic development.
Group study sessions, teamwork, and an all-new test file are a few
examples of the many ways Phi Delta Chi's help each other in
school. Brothers further in the curriculum can offer help to
those taking classes they have already taken.
-
Phi Delta Chi's will often attend social activities
together and friendships form that will last a lifetime.
-
The Theta Chapter has a house with 14 single rooms for
pharmacy students to live in (renting information).
What Are Some
Activities PDXers Do?
-
Weekly Monday Night Meetings: meetings start at 5pm,
last about an hour, and are followed by a free, home-cooked meal. (Sometime during the year, each member must help prepare
dinner.)
-
Participate in a Committee: each member must assist
one committee with their proceedings (ex: professional, fundraising,
social, scholarship)
-
Participate in at least 2 professional projects per
semester. Examples of previous projects are found on the Committee's
Page (listed under "Professional").
-
Participate in at least 2 fundraising events per
semester. Examples include Xcel Energy Center concession stands
(MN
Wild games and concerts) and bake sales.
-
Have the opportunity to participate in intramural
outings (volleyball, basketball, co-ed softball, flag football).
-
Have the opportunity to participate in social outings
(parties at the PDX house, Cragun's, sports tickets,
"haunted" hay rides, paintball, barbeques).
How Do I Join?
Every fall the Theta Chapter has a new pledge
class. Students can attend a variety of events to acquaint
themselves with the association prior to committing to pledge Phi Delta
Chi. Typically
the Theta Chapter hosts a free barbeque and invites any interested
students to the open meetings. Open meetings are Mondays at 5:00pm
the first three weeks of each semester. At the final open meeting, anyone
interested will need to decide whether they plan to make a commitment to
pledge. Anyone interested in learning more about PDX and meeting
the current members should attend these events.
