AAPS Executives Spend a Day in the College of Pharmacy

AAPS President, Dr. Gene Fiese, and AAPS Director of Public Outreach, Stacey May, visited the University of Minnesota from March 21 st – 23 rd . During this visit, graduate students, post-docs and faculty from the Departments of Pharmaceutics, Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology, Chemical Engineering, Pharmacology, and Neuroscience had the opportunity to discuss career options in the pharmaceutical industry, as well as learn of ways to become active participants in AAPS. Dr. Fiese presented a seminar highlighting his research during his 30 year career at Pfizer, followed by a presentation about post-doctoral research positions and reasons for pursuing them in academia or industry. He finished by addressing questions from graduate students considering careers in the pharmaceutical industry. Dr. Fiese also presented the Pharmaceutics Departmental seminar on Thursday afternoon where he discussed the pharmaceutics of macrolide antibiotics.

To learn more about the AAPS president, including his passion for sailing and geneology, see Dr. Sawchuk's entertaining introduction for Dr. Fiese's afternoon seminar and his personal website: http://www.geocities.com/fiese@sbcglobal.net/index.html . Dr. Fiese also kindly provided his seminar for those who missed it.

Stacey May met with AAPS Student Chapter officers to discuss our recent activities, and also talked with students about the benefits of professional membership with the AAPS. Stacey strongly encourages graduate students to get involved in different sections and focus groups of AAPS. If you want to get involved or want to invite a guest speaker to our university, Stacey is the person to go to ( MayS@aaps.org ).
