AAPS Student Chapter Kick-Off Meeting Scheduled for Thursday, October 4th!

It's the beginning of new academic year and so it is time for our annual AAPS Student Chapter Kick-Off Meeting! Graduate students, undergraduate students and post-doctoral fellows across multiple departments are invited to join us for this informal kick-off meeting (lunch will be provided) from 12:00 to 1:00 pm on Thursday, October 4th.

Here's your chance to learn more about the purpose of the student chapter, how to become involved, to find out what events have been organized in the past, and to brainstorm ideas for future events for the upcoming year. We will also be discussing the different positions in the AAPS Executive Committee (Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, Web Coordinator), so start thinking about nominees (or maybe consider yourself) for one of these positions! Elections for new committee members will be held the following week (October 11 th ).

Why get involved?

Involvement in a professional organization during your academic career will boost your chances of securing a job because your involvement demonstrates initiative and leadership qualities. The chapter has a history of inviting scientists from the pharmaceutical industry as guest lecturers, so you have a unique opportunity to meet with these individuals and learn about the latest in research in this field. The chapter also has a history of organizing workshops to improve your skills – interview skills, resume writing skills, literature database searching, oral presentation skills – all of which make you more marketable to people looking to hire.

Aside from the professional benefits, the chapter attracts individuals from across different departments, including Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology, Medicinal Chemistry, and Chemical and Biomedical Engineering, so you have an opportunity to meet and interact with students and post-docs from outside your area of expertise. The chapter organizes social outings such as happy hours, baseball games, and concerts, with the goal of adding to your academic experience at the U of M. And, of course, most events are accompanied by FREE food!

So what's the catch? THERE IS NO CATCH! Membership is absolutely free! You just have to show up to a meeting and participate in the activities. It's that easy! Join us for the kick-off meeting to learn more about how to get involved with the AAPS Student Chapter!
